Kinder Jumpstart!

oh my goodness! I have seriously been SO bad about posting! It has been a VERY busy few weeks setting up my classroom and starting the year with my new kinderbabies. Our actual first day of school is in about 1 1/2 weeks, but our school is trying a new "Kindergarten Jumpstart" this year, where just the kinderbabies come for 2 weeks! On Monday I was pretty excited to be done setting up all the little details and meet my kiddos! My school is a Title 1 school where majority of students are Spanish speakers. My classroom is one of the ELL classrooms, so all my students come in speaking pretty much only Spanish. Thankfully I do have some kiddos who do speak a little English! It is a challenge at first because we are only allowed to speak English (I do not speak Spanish except for a TINY bit of key words) and you feel as though the babes are just staring at you like "what is going on?!". I obviously am repeating and modeling, modeling, modeling everything I do!!! My students are SO smart and have caught on to everything pretty well. I do have quite a few kiddos that have never had any experience in any school setting so they are adjusting to listening and following directions : ) Also it is amazing all the kids that have never used scissors or glue! We have been doing lots of activities that work on simply cutting straight lines and glueing simple shapes/pieces of paper. I am loving their sweet smiles and beautiful personalities. I am always worried about the "criers" because it is so sad seeing them so upset. Thankfully my class is very ready to be at school and happily hug Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma etc. goodbye!

We are a free full day kindergarten program, but jumpstart is only halfday to ease them into this new experience. Our schedule doesn't follow my full day schedule at all, but when does it at the beginning of the year? We focus on some of our basic circle time, story time, calendar, lining up, walking around school, recess, bathroom and lunch routines, to get them adjusted and in the groove. I can't lie, and am super excited for actual fullday to start so I can get started on a schedule!

Once school begins I will be posting pics of activities and my routines! I love seeing other teachers classrooms, so I will post pics of mine! I like to fill my walls with beautiful student work so I'll wait a bit until we have it up!

I would love to hear when your school year begins or if you also do a jumpstart at your school!

Much love

Back to Basics Number Set up!

woohoo! Counting set is up too! Each set is only a dollar and I can promise your kiddos will use the cards and worksheets all the time : ) The worksheets could easily be laminated for a quick morning work, or sent home with parents as something easy they can work on.

Hope you enjoy!

Back to Basics sets!!

Hey everyone! It has been such a busy summer and I can not believe school starts for me on the 23rd! ahhhh! I should be posting a lot more then, since I'll actually be in the classroom : ) I just wanted to let you know about a lil set I put up on Teachers Notebook (I will be adding to TPT soon also!) It is my Back to Basics Alphabet set. It includes, ABC teacher cards, student cards and ABC handwriting book. I use my ABC cards every single day to work on letter names and sounds at the beginning of the year.

I am going to also put up Back to Basics Number, Colors and Shapes. All things you can use to either introduce the basics or reinforce what your students already know!

NOW I have a random question! Tomorrow I am going to my classroom with my hubby to set up bulletin boards. What cute ideas do you have for some Welcome Back boards?? Thanks!

oopsie! Missing in action : )

Hey! I haven't posted in over a week and I really need to get back to it. My daughter turned two (picture at the top! ) so we have been busy having fun and not getting much work done. I promise to get my farm stations up this week and hopefully my full farm thematic unit up by Sunday or so.

Pretty soon I will be heading back into the classroom to set up for my new kinderbabies : ) Our school was painted AND I moved classrooms, so I have a lot of moving and setting up to do. I see a lot of themed rooms and was wondering what themes you're doing? I don't usually do a theme, but just lots of bright colors and fun bulletin boards. I like to change up my room to match whatever theme I am working on, but it so tough changing things up so often! My husband is the king of bulletin boards, so thankfully he helps gets things done much faster. I think it's important hanging up the kiddos work as much as possible and my goal this year is to be better at rotating new work. Sometimes we get so busy, the same things stay up forever! My friend Julie and I (also a kinder teacher) made a conscious effort last year to change things up and hope to do so even more this year! We are so excited because our friend Abbee is joining our kinder team and she is awesome! I know we will work hard to get some amazing things accomplished with our kids.

Alright off to finish up my stations! Much love
